Key Points:A slow-moving storm system in early April brought widespread flooding and over 150 tornadoes to the South and Midwest, resulting in numerous injuries and at least 24 fatalities. April temperatures were particularly warm across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, with near-record warmth observed in the Carolinas and neighboring states. Alaska had its second-wettest April on record and its fourth-warmest year to date.

After all the storms we had yesterday, today has shaped up to be quite nice! The cold front dropped our temperatures and decreased the amount of moisture we have in the air. Louisville will stay a touch warmer than outlying regions this evening, so keep that in mind if you have any outdoor plans today. For those heading to the Louisville Bats game tonight, you can probably get away without a light jacket, but consider bringing one if you are typically cold-natured.

Storms are starting to pop up over parts of Kentuckiana. The best chance for strong to severe storms is south of I-64 and likely south of the Parkways. With increased energy values over 1500 J/kg in some spots, large hail will be possible with these pulse type thunderstorms. The low-level jet isn't moving very fast, but it might briefly speed up to our minimum criteria of 35 knots for organized severe weather this afternoon. This could produce an isolated instance of damaging straight-line winds.

We've had a nice, 3-day stretch of quiet and pleasant weather around here, but it all comes to an end soon. A cold front will dip into our southern Indiana counties tomorrow morning and clash with a warm air mass moving in from the south to spark off numerous scattered showers and storms throughout the day. Tonight will be fairly quiet for most of us, but a few pop-up showers are possible mainly south of the I-64 corridor.

WolkThe bone appears to have been struck by a fast-moving, rapidly spinning neutron star, or pulsar. Neutron stars are the densest known stars and form from the collapse and explosion of massive stars. They often receive a powerful kick from these explosions, sending them away from the explosion’s location at high speeds.
