Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said higher education would be a focus of her legislative agenda this year. Her comments, along with other Arkansas developments and a brilliant book on the value of higher education, converged for me today. Sanders’ sneering view of a liberal arts education, despite her own OBU degree, has long been obvious. She embroidered on it in her state of the state speech this week. She proposes a greater emphasis on vocational training short of a four-year college degree.

It was a bleak Election Day. Searching desperately for bright spots, I thought about what I’d have said if I still did a daily news roundup on Facebook Live. Nationally, almost no bright spots to report. Donald Trump will likely win the popular vote as well as an electoral college landslide. The U.S. Senate has gone Republican. Control of the House is still uncertain, with some Dem pickups and losses already noted. One potential bright spot: Trump might take Gov.

A reader asked about the redoubtable Death By Inches, Fort Smith bureau chief for the Arkansas Blog since at least 2008. (What a night celebrating Barack Obama’s election in LR). I’ve been in touch. He reports. Hi Max!2023 was a hard year at my house. I’ve been going downhill since April and the last month was very dangerous with an uncontrollable infection in my right leg and gangrene all over my right foot. I was told I could die in a couple of days or amputate my right leg above the knee.
