The leadership of the Liberal Party is up for grabs after Peter Dutton lost his seat in Dickson. Mr Dutton had held the marginal Queensland seat since 2001, but at her third attempt, Labor candidate Ali France knocked off the Opposition Leader. At the latest count, Mr Dutton suffered a 10.9 per cent swing against him, giving his Labor opponent a lead of 9.2 per cent. The massive, and shock, win for the Labor Party will add to its majority after Sky News called the election for the ALP.

ABC journalists have said they are "beyond disappointed" at chairman Kim Williams' "arrogant attitude" after revelations he intervened to assist a comedian gain interviews with the public broadcaster's Regional Radio division. Reports emerged on Monday night that Austen Tayshus, whose real name is Sandy Gutman, obtained air time on several of the ABC's regional radio stations after contacting Mr Williams.

Labor has shared a bizarre post targeting Opposition Leader Peter Dutton over Medicare after the Prime Minister mocked the Coalition for "spending time on memes" during the election campaign. The advertisement, posted to the Australian Labor Party's Instagram this week, depicts an apparently AI-generated Mr Dutton with two pairs of scissors approaching a giant squid holding a Medicare sign.

Liberal candidate for Wentworth Ro Knox has called out Allegra Spender for a "complete lack of transparency and integrity" after the Teal MP admitted to paying influencers for endorsements. Ms Spender admitted during an ABC interview on Friday that her campaign engaged an agency to organise content produced by social media influencers. The Teal MP said social media content creators were engaged to collaborate with her campaign on posts which were uploaded to sites such as Instagram.

One Queensland town has already copped the most rain for the month of April in more than 30 years after just three days. Central and western Queensland were in the firing line in March with some areas nearly doubling their average yearly rainfall. An area the size of Victoria, or about 3,000 km, suffered through the devastating flooding. But while that region has copped a substantial lashing of rain, eyes have turned to the east coast where some towns are experiencing a severe deluge.
