The Mountaineers won 72-61, snapping their four-game losing streak. The Black and Gold have now won 10 of their last 11 home games against Sun Belt opponents. This win was their first against a Sun Belt Conference opponent and improves their record to 7-7. “It just feels good just to get in that win column,” said graduate student forward CJ Huntley.

Categories: December 20, 2024 The App State women’s basketball team traveled to take on College of Charleston Tuesday, losing 83-47, which is their third straight loss. The Cougars jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and maintained the lead. The Black and Gold trailed 23-10 at the end of the first quarter. Senior guard Eleyana Tafisi ended the quarter with a buzzer-beater three. The second quarter saw little action for the Black and Gold, who trailed 47-20 at the end of the half.

Categories: December 6, 2024 App State men’s basketball returned home from the Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic to face Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Tuesday. The Black and Gold won 85-43. App State has won five of their last six games and 19 of their last 20 home games. “Nineteen and one in our last 20 games at home says a lot about the Holmes Center and our students and fans,” said head coach Dustin Kerns.

The idea of carrying on your family legacy is important to App State junior defensive back Ethan Johnson. Johnson’s father Elando and brother Elijah both suited up for the Black and Gold. When it came time for Ethan Johnson to decide where to take his talents after high school, the decision was easy. Ethan Johnson committed to App State just seven days after receiving the offer over bigger programs like Kansas and Ole Miss. “It was pretty simple for me,” Ethan Johnson said.

App State field hockey suffered an overtime loss in the conference semifinals to Miami (OH) 3-2 Thursday. The first quarter saw little action. Neither team found the back of the cage and the score was tied at 0 heading into the second quarter. Miami (OH) scored on a penalty corner, taking a 1-0 lead. The Mountaineers responded with a goal by senior defender Jillian Orcutt on a penalty corner to tie the game at one.
