SPARTANBURG — A nationally acclaimed Southern comfort food restaurant and Spartanburg staple since 1947 hopes to expand to the Westside in 2026. Wade’s Restaurant, coming off winning a prestigious James Beard Award in 2024, plans to open a second location, dubbed Wade’s Jr., focused on takeout and a streamlined menu. It will be at 3008 Reidville Road near Duncan and Moore, and the spot aims to open around March 2026.

SPARTANBURG — Eight candidates are vying to fill former County Council member David Britt’s empty seat and serve the rest of his term that ends Jan. 1, 2029. Filing for the Spartanburg County Council District 3 seat closed at noon June 14. Six Republicans, one Democrat and one member of the centrist Forward Party are running. The district covers a large slice of the county’s eastern half, including Cowpens, Pacolet, part of the city of Spartanburg and plenty of unincorporated land.

SPARTANBURG — The new owners of the former Pepsi bottling plant on Spartanburg’s Southside plan to start renovating the property later this summer. Atlas Real Estate Advisors, a Georgia-based real estate firm, will manage the construction and leasing of the property at 729 S. Church St. The property’s ultimate use is still undetermined, as the firm focuses on renovating neglected warehouses and then leasing them to other users. It does not plan on occupying the building.

SPARTANBURG — A plan to redevelop the Southside’s former Pepsi bottling plant into a light manufacturing facility has been scrapped after years of delays and community pushback. The former Pepsi plant at 729 S. Church St. sold for just over $2 million on May 8, according to public property records. Two companies, 729 VAD LLC and Atlas Management LLC, now co-own the property.

SPARTANBURG — An apartment complex on Spartanburg’s Eastside is under new ownership. BridgeGaps Real Estate, a private equity firm based in New Jersey, purchased the Lively Drayton Mills apartment complex from Orange Capital Advisors, an Orangeburg-based developer, on May 21 for $53 million. The Post and Courier in 2022 reported that the project’s initial total investment was $50 million.
