Seventeen days after three Pomona College contingent faculty members sent an open letter to faculty about their removal from college-owned residences, the situation — in which a total of nine contingent faculty have received an eviction letter — has yet to be resolved. Still, members of Pomona’s community have continued to express support for those affected, with ASPC inviting the three co-signers to speak at a meeting last week.

On Monday, April 10, three Pomona College contingent faculty members sent an open letter to faculty sharing their removal from college-owned residences this summer, raising concerns about affording living in Los Angeles County on their current salaries. The letter was co-signed by Postdoctoral Research Fellow Li-Fang Lai, Rand Postdoctoral Fellow in Asian Studies Maddalena Poli and Visiting Professor of Chemistry Heidi van de Wouw.

Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) athletics programs both completed an Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) report outlining the spending totals of their respective programs that were made available to the public earlier this month.

On April 6, Scripps College announced Amy Marcus-Newhall’s unanimous selection as the 11th president of the college in an email from Board Chair Laura Hockett SC ’85. This comes in the wake of former President Suzanne Keen’s resignation after an eight-month tenure. Marcus-Newhall has served as interim or acting president three times: once during the 2015-2016 academic year, and twice more prior to and following Keen’s tenure as president.

At 12:47 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, voting closed for Pomona College’s 2023 ASPC elections. The winners were announced via email shortly after, announcing Pomona’s student body leaders for the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year. Current ASPC President Vera Berger PO ‘23 said the new student body will bring a combination of fresh and experienced approaches.
