On Wednesday, over 150 7C students gathered on Marston Quad at Pomona College for a vigil, teach-in and die-in as part of an international Shut it Down for Palestine action. These efforts come in the wake of weeks of student organizing at the Claremont Colleges advocating for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and demanding investment disclosure from Pomona’s administration.

On Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m., Claremont College students began gathering outside Pomona College’s Smith Campus Center for “Shut Pom Down for Palestine,” part of a “global call” to action for divestment organized by Palestinian Youth Movement, National Students for Justice in Palestine and International People’s Assembly. This protest comes just over two weeks after hundreds of 7C students walked out of classes to demand Pomona divest from Israeli companies.

It was the first time of thousands that I would try to silence and smother those thoughts, the overwhelming sensation of the world being far too big and small at the same time, suffocating me with both uncertainty and not enough possibility.

On Wednesday afternoon, over 350 Claremont students walked out of classes to demand that the Claremont Colleges divest from companies and manufacturers that support the Israeli government, citing the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The demonstration and delegation effort was part of a nationwide student walkout calling for an end to Israel’s occupation of historically Palestinian land and U.S. support of what many international groups recognize as Israeli apartheid.
