It seems that in the hours following Beyoncé’s Grammy win, every discussion I saw on social media determined she didn’t deserve it. Though I myself was hoping Billie Eilish’s album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” would win Album of the Year, the most coveted Grammy title, I can’t help but feel proud as a Black woman that Beyoncé finally won, becoming the first Black woman to win the title in the 21st century.

Right before Thanksgiving break, Kendrick Lamar dropped his most recent album “GNX” with minimal to no roll-out following the consecutive diss tracks against Drake, and I spent the entire five hours of my drive back home listening to the album on loop. Though there was a decent amount of time between the diss tracks and “GNX”, I was worried the album would be like the quickly produced tracks he had put out beginning this past spring. Don’t get me wrong — I am a huge fan of Kendrick Lamar.

We are in a time where albums have begun to lose their beauty as a collection of art, instead functioning as a hodgepodge of songs. Though they usually have a connecting theme between songs, albums no longer have the level of depth, growth and detail that albums used to have.
