LaSalle Mayor Crystal Meloche is adding her voice to the chorus of local officials that have come out against the expansion of strong mayor powers. Earlier this month, the Ford government announced the expansion of strong mayor powers to leaders in 169 more municipalities, including LaSalle. The powers give mayors the ability to override some council decisions, fire and hire senior staff, and veto bylaws.
Ontario invests more than $4.5 million in Windsor and Tecumseh transit

The Windsor Spitfires will be pushing hard for a win tonight at home to move onto the next round of playoffs. The Spits were shut out on Wednesday night in Kitchener by the Rangers during Game 4. The Rangers goalie, Jackson Parsons, made 24 saves, while Spits goaltender Joey Costanzo stopped 32 of 34 shots. Windsor leads the best-of-seven OHL Western Conference semifinal series 3-1.

Two suspects arrested and charged following $65,000 drug bust

Two suspects have been arrested and a firearm and $65,000 in illegal drugs have been seized. Earlier this year, the Windsor Police Drugs and Guns Enforcement Unit launched an investigation into a 27-year-old man suspected of trafficking drugs. On Wednesday, April 16, officers located and arrested the suspect in the 9200 block of Tecumseh Road East. Following the arrest, officers seized over $4,000 in cash, and nearly 24 grams of crystal meth. A female suspect was also arrested.
OPP looking to identify shoplifting suspect

The Essex County Ontario Provincial Police are asking for the public's help following a shoplifting incident in the Town of Essex. On April 5, at approximately 4:50 p.m., an individual entered a business on Maidstone Avenue in Essex and proceeded to steal over $750 in clothing. The suspect is described as a thin white man, approximately 6-feet tall, with some facial hair. He was seen wearing a plaid coat, dark pants, and a dark ball cap.
Nurse Police Team continues to see success in the community

The Nurse Police Team continues to work to improve police response times, and reduce the burden on emergency departments. The program, which launched in May 2023, pairs nursing professionals from Windsor Regional Hospital with frontline Windsor Police officers with the goal of responding to non-emergency, substance use-related incidents. Since the start of 2024, the team has responded to over 3,100 calls and diverted nearly 900 people away from the emergency department.
