    About 100 people will be showing their brave this weekend. The 2nd annual Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation "Show Us Your Brave" campaign takes place Saturday, June 21 in downtown Windsor. Speaking on AM800's Mornings with Mike & Meg, cancer centre foundation marketing & communications manager Brandy Coulsey says participates will rappel the CIBC building on Riverside Drive at Ouellette Avenue. She says it's the second year for the all-day event.

    Swimming is not recommended at two local beaches this weekend. The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is advising against swimming at Holiday Beach in Amherstburg and Cedar Beach in Kingsville. The health unit says weekly beach water testing shows E.coli levels high at both beaches. WECHU says the high levels of bacteria may pose a risk to health. All other beaches in Essex County are open and safe for swimming. Water access at Sandpoint Beach in Windsor is now fenced off for safety reasons.

    City officials want to make sure residents are staying safe and cool during the upcoming heat wave. The city says its splash pads will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. but city pools are closed. The city is planning on opening the pools on June 28. City libraries and customer care centres will also be open to provide cool havens for residents. The Homelessness and Housing Help Hub on Wyandotte Street East will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for those experiencing homelessness.

    The local humane society wants pet owners to keep a close eye on their animals during the heat wave. Windsor-Essex County Humane Society Executive Director Lynnette Bain says access to water and shade are important for pets during the heat wave. She says the humane society is encouraging pet owners to think twice about bringing their pets in cars.

    The hum coming from the NextStar Energy battery plant in Windsor is gone. Speaking on AM800's Mornings with Mike & Meg, ward 7 city councillor Angelo Marignani says NextStar has installed insulation blankets. He says the blankets have been placed around exhaust vents at the plant. In April, Marignani said he received several complaints from residents about the tonal hum.
