Two deputies teamed up to save someone from a rip current in Sarasota over the weekend.An off-duty Lee County sergeant was spending the morning at Siesta Beach when he noticed a Sarasota deputy helping a distressed swimmer.The person was struggling in a rip current more than 75 yards out.LCSO says Sgt. Eric Nalewaik jumped in to help Deputy Mark Eve bring the swimmer to safety.The duo is proving teamwork makes the dream work and took a photo after the rescue.

From smashing cookie-selling records to leaving a lasting impact, hundreds of Gulf Coast Girl Scouts were just honored for their accomplishments. On Sunday, Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida celebrated the 2025 Women of Distinction ceremony at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center in Punta Gorda. Four hundred thirteen girls received awards for their achievements in leadership, service, faith, academics and entrepreneurship.

More people are turning to chatbots for mental health support. The artificial intelligence apps can be quick, convenient and as Florida Southwestern student, Dion Harris, describes them relatively correct. "I use it (AI) sometimes, like, when I research what games I want to get," Harris said. Harris said while it's helpful for some things, he wouldn't turn to AI for therapy. "I've heard about people actually talking to it like it's a real person," he said.
