If sipping margaritas on a Bali bed while deciding between a deep-tissue massage or a fresh plate of ceviche sounds like your idea of paradise, let me introduce you to Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal. I spent four glorious days there in March on a press trip, and as a travel expert who has lost count of her Mexico visits (and margarita count, let’s be honest), I can confidently say this resort deserves your attention—and maybe even a suitcase with extra room for a souvenir sombrero.

The day I was leaving Lake Tahoe the valet attendant suggested I visit Virginia City. He said it was a ghost town. I had never been to a ghost town, so of course I drove straight there. This isn’t your grandma’s cruise ship (though, honestly, grandma would love it too).

Some of us remember Mazatlán as a stop for the Pacific Princess cruise ship on the 1970’s era TV show The Love Boat. I recently spent four days there as a guest of Dreams Estrella del Mar Mazatlán Golf & Spa Resort and found so much to love both on and off the property, which opened in April 2024. Stay at Dreams Estrella del Mar Dreams Estrella del Mar sits just 15 minutes from the international airport, which makes arrival (and departure) that much sweeter.
