Sinn Féin TD for Louth Imelda Munster has said she will not be contesting the next general election. Ms Munster topped the poll in 2020, having been first elected in 2016. In a statement, Ms Munster said it was an "honour and privilege" to represent the people of her hometown of Drogheda and County Louth in the Dáil and that she looked forward to continuing this work for the remainder of the Dáil term.

Eirgrid has said that a number of landowners have signed up to its offer of compensation to allow pylons and overhead lines be built on their land for the North-South Interconnector. The interconnector would link the electricity grids of Ireland and Northern Ireland with a 138km line and 407 pylons through the counties Meath, Cavan, Monaghan, Armagh and Tyrone. There would be 100km and 306 pylons in the Republic of Ireland.

Myles O'Brien was left paralysed below the neck after a motorcycle accident in May this year. Mr O’Brien, 60, is recovering in the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dublin and has not been home to his family in Westport, Co Mayo, since the crash. He had been riding motorbikes for a year-and-a-half before the crash, and puts what happened to him down to a mixture of inexperience, speed and bad luck.

The former leader of the Christian Brothers has initiated a High Court action against Louth County Council and the Borough District of Drogheda. Brother Edmund Garvey initiated judicial review proceedings on Monday. In September, members of the Drogheda Borough Council voted to effectively rescind the Freedom of Drogheda from him. The civic honour had been given to the Drogheda native in 1997. Five councillors voted for the motion to no longer acknowledge Brother Garvey as a freeman of Drogheda.
