1. IntroductionColorectal cancer (CRC) is the fourth most common cancer in the UK, with the second highest cancer-related mortality. Currently, large proportions of CRCs are diagnosed at an advanced stage (52%) or following emergency presentation (24%) in the UK [1]. A recent international study found that 23% to 36% of CRCs are diagnosed as an emergency [2]. Diagnosing cancer earlier is a key public health target for improving survival [3,4].
