May 21-Just prior to Miles Mashek scoring his first varsity goal for Columbia River boys soccer, the senior heard a phrase from the bench: "Score ugly."Nothing was ugly about Mashek's goal in what turned out to be a 5-1 Rapids victory over Nathan Hale of Seattle on Wednesday to open the Class 2A state tournament. He connected off a corner kick by JP Guzman, and fired into the left back post in first-half stoppage goal that gave River a 2-0 cushion entering halftime.

May 17-There's a number of similarities between the 2025 Seton Catholic baseball team and the 2024 version that made program history by winning its first district title and reaching the Class 1A state tournament. For starters, this year's Cougars repeated as 1A District IV champions, doing so Saturday in an 8-0 shutout of La Center in an all-Trico League championship game at Mountain View High School.

May 14-After a 45-minute season-ending postgame, in which Prairie coach Shane Sullivan spoke to and about every player on the Falcons roster just beyond third base at their home field, the coach still felt speechless about the 2025 high school baseball season. "I think the biggest takeaway from this experience," he said, "has got to be just how much I love the game of baseball and how great it is to see these young men and how passionate they are about what they do every day.
