B.C.’s Ministry of Environment and Parks issued a news release Thursday stating that the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail will remain closed through summer 2025 as workers repair damage caused by fall and winter storms.

Some Metro Vancouver tenants were recently successful in getting the B.C. Supreme Court to cancel their eviction over smoking on their unit’s private deck. The tenants have been living in a fourplex with three other units for the past eight years, but in 2021, the property was sold, and they got a new landlord. They argued that the new landlord was racially discriminatory and tried multiple times to evict them to charge a higher rental rate for the unit.

A gas leak forced the closure of a section of King George Boulevard in Surrey as the Thursday afternoon rush hour began. FortisBC confirmed damage to a gas main line was caused by an “external party” Thursday. Crews were on site to repair it, but King George Boulevard had to be closed from 78th Avenue to 80th Avenue. Vancouver dog abandoned in garbage finds forever home

A small dog who was found injured inside a garbage can in Pacific Spirit Park last week is recovering well and has found a loving forever home. Oscar the poodle had surgery this week on his front leg and hip, and is going home with animal rescue volunteer Laurie Schildt. “I’m just in love,” she told Daily Hive. “The way he looks at me since I’ve had him… his eyes and his personality. And his story. Being left in there and being discarded like nothing. To see how resilient he is and trusting.
