The separation of sexuality from fertility, which is called contraception, is based on the understanding of human reproductive physiology, which in this context includes the understanding of the processes in the female and male body, and how these processes interact in producing a pregnancy. Based on this knowledge contraceptive methods have been developed, which are different and specific for females and males.
