    The European Commission’s proposal to introduce trade countermeasures against the US steel and aluminium tariffs has been approved by European Union member states, following a meeting with automotive industry representatives including BMW, VW Group and Stellantis. The countermeasures, in answer to tariffs on steel and aluminium imports to the US from the EU, mean that the EU can apply retaliatory tariffs on more than €20 billion of US products.

    JLR has said it will pause all shipments to the US, following the raft of tariffs announced by US president Donald Trump last week. The OEM said it is taking short-term action by pausing US shipments to develop its longer-term plans to deal with the impact of the tariffs. Last week, Trump confirmed a 25% tariff on imports of finished vehicles taking effect immediately from 3 April, with a 25% tariff on parts imports to come next month.

    BMW’s Debrecen plant is using digitalisation and just-in-sequence delivery to speed towards series production of the iX3. BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary is quickly moving towards series production of the BMW iX3, set to begin late this year. The OEM is adopting in-plant logistics innovations including digital tools and just-in-sequence delivery to develop the plant and reach assembly launch.
