FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (7News) — A new pilot program in Fairfax County is helping reduce waste by keeping not just your old clothes --- but your old fabrics, accessories and that pesky lone sock -- out of landfills. It costs the county nothing, and in just three months, the pilot has collected nine and a half tons of items. "We create a lot of waste," Fairfax County Sustainability Analyst Catie Torgersen said.

Chingiz Bahadur is a junior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. Bahadur is a member of the Potomac River Young Marines in Washington, D.C., and was one of six division winners to go to Texas and compete for the national title on April 26.
