(WLOS) — The risk for wildfires in Western North Carolina is extreme through the rest of today. A combination of gusty winds, low relative humidity, and abnormally dry conditions have led to elevated fire danger today. With a wildfire currently burning in Old Fort, smoke plume will shift from blowing to the Southeast, to the North tomorrow, taking smoke right into Old Fort. Winds in the 25 to 35 mph range also have a downslope component today.

Growing up in north Texas, my favorite color combo was that new spring green against a dark gray sky. Really enjoyed a long puppy walk surrounded by those colors this evening. Have a wonderful weekend! #wncwx @WLOS_13 @natwxdesk https://t.co/eTeXCDwdIP

A little foggy out this morning, with a chance of scattered showers through the day. High temps will top out in the 50s, but it will be chilly and breezy this evening. Gusty & cool Saturday. Frosty A.M. Sunday then warmer. #wncwx #avlwx #ncwx #scwx @WLOS_13 https://t.co/NrUZ7qoFVn
