Laura Lyons is the president and owner of ATech Training in Walton and has more than 30 years of manufacturing experience. Laura is a Northern Kentucky native and lives in Florence. Mental health is such a hard thing to talk about. It’s even harder to talk about when it’s our kids: When they’re not OK, we, the adults, are supposed to have the answers. But the fact is, many times, we don’t. We don’t know what to say, let alone what to do, when multiple deaths by suicide are reported in close succession at one school district. We don’t know how to respond when there is a 35% increase in diagnosed mental health conditions among teens in the last seven years.
Former NKU president, community champion James Votruba dies

Dr. James Votruba, who served as Northern Kentucky University’s president for 15 years, died Tuesday night at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 79. While he may be most well known because of his tenure at NKU, which stretched from 1997 to 2012, in Northern Kentucky, Votruba has always been known for his leadership, mentorship and kindness. “Jim pioneered the way on so many fronts for NKU and this community,” said Karen Finan, president and CEO of the OneNKY Alliance.
Senate green lights DEI bill following heavy debate

After impassioned debate Wednesday afternoon, the Kentucky Senate adopted a DEI bill that seeks to ban diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at public postsecondary intuitions in Kentucky. House Bill 4, sponsored by Rep. Jennifer Decker, a Republican from Waddy, advanced off the Senate floor with a 36-6 vote. It was presented on the chamber floor by Sen. Stephen West, a Republican from Paris.
