    The federal government pulled back funding last week for a program that addressed the current opioid crisis in Nebraska. The Nebraska Hospital Association had been using the funding, which came from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, to partner with more than a dozen hospitals across the state to reduce the number of opioid prescriptions given to patients after they had surgeries.

    The philanthropic arm of Nebraska Blue Cross and Blue Shield called the Nebraska Blue Foundation awarded $600,000 to Project Access, a program by the Health Center Association of Nebraska which supports Federally Qualified Health Centers in the state. FQHCs, or community health centers, primarily provide health care to underserved populations, including behavioral health and dental care. The grant will support four rural FQHCs in Columbus, Gering, Grand Island and Norfolk.

    A storm system late Tuesday night will bring in rain that will turn to snow Wednesday morning, according to The National Weather Service. Along with the precipitation, Nebraskans should expect to see winds of up to 70 mph, the NWS said Monday morning. “We've got a pretty strong storm system that's going to be moving through the region over the next couple of days here,” said Katie Gross, a meteorologist at NWS Omaha.

    Officials say they received a call for a fire on 51 Keene Road in Winchester at 6:37 p.m.Crews arrived shortly after. The fire was first called a first-alarm fire but was then quickly raised to a second alarm. Officials say that everyone who was in the building at the time was able to escape prior to calling 911. They were also told that Eversource was called onto the scene but would take over an hour to arrive.As of 8 p.m., units are still on the scene.This is a developing story.
