On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the members of the Princeton University Postdocs and Scholars-United Auto Workers (PUPS-UAW) union attempted to have their second bargaining session with the representatives from the University. However, in a series of events reminiscent of last week’s bargaining session, negotiations halted after new disputes on whether observers would be allowed to attend the negotiations.

Following elections held Monday, May 13 and Tuesday, May 14, University graduate students have voted against joining the United Electrical, Radio, and Machine Workers of America (UE), with 391 in favor and 652 against. This decision follows postdocs voting last week to join the United Auto Workers (UAW). Unionization has been under consideration by graduate students at the University since 2016, when Princeton Graduate Students United (PGSU) was formed.

Postdoctoral researchers at Princeton have won their union. The Princeton University Postdocs and Scholars (PUPS) X account posted the results to an election to decide if they will join a union with the United Auto Workers (UAW). According to PUPS, 484 postdocs voted in favor of unionizing while 89 voted against unionization. The election was held Thursday evening in Frist Campus Center.

Graduate students seeking to unionize filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on Friday afternoon, potentially making the University the last Ivy League school to have a recognized graduate student union. The move by Princeton Graduate Students United (PGSU) comes two weeks after postdoctoral workers at the University filed for an NLRB election.

The University has recently , after a vote on Monday, April 1, that graduate students will now have seats on the Faculty Committee for the Graduate School. This decision followed a faculty vote to allow graduate students into the four subcommittees of the Committee: Policy, Curriculum, Fellowship, and Student Life and Discipline. Currently, the subcommittees are made up of four or eight faculty members.

An approximately 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck campus at approximately 10:25 a.m. on Friday, April 5. According to the United States Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Tewksbury, N.J., approximately 25 miles north of Princeton. A TigerAlert sent at 10:54 a.m. read, “Earthquake occurred at 10:25 a.m. No reports of injuries or damage on campus. You can resume normal activities.” Some students reported building evacuations in response to the quake.

In the third year of an expanded undergraduate class, the University offered admission to the Class of 2028 this past Thursday, March 28. March 28 was this year’s ‘,’ the day that most Ivy League schools release their regular decision results and is traditionally the day in which Princeton of the next year’s class. Data for the accepted Class of 2028 has not yet been published.
