1 INTRODUCTION Diabetic neuropathic foot ulcers, infections and peripheral arterial disease are part of the triad of diabetes related complications that often lead to foot and leg amputations.1 Foot ulcers and PAD can exist for prolonged periods without amputation. Infection is often the sentinel event in the disease process that drives surgery, hospitalization and amputation.
