It’s billed as a kind of parade that no other town in the world has. And it was born from the premise that “in 1986, no marching band could be found for Windham’s Memorial Day Parade,” according to the event’s longtime grand marshal. Now, the 39th annual WILI Boom Box Parade begins at 11 a.m. at Jillson Square in Willimantic on Thursday, July 4. According to WILI’s Wayne Norman, it’s the largest parade of its kind in the world.

That’s true for fans of the Mansfield Drive-in Theatre, which is celebrating its 70th year in business this year, and has also become a favorite spot for tourists and bargain seekers.

The Connecticut restaurant is known to customers for its traditional dishes and high-quality ingredients. And it’s the customers and community who have helped Mansfield’s Coyote Flaco Mexican Restaurant thrive, the owner said. Coyote Flaco first opened in Hartford in 1999, where it is still in business today at 635 New Britain Ave. The Mansfield restaurant is about to celebrate 20 years in town.

Katie LeClair is about to run in a road race in her 169th Connecticut town. And yes, that means she’s run a race in every town in the state except one. So, on March 30, LeClair, a veteran and Windham resident, plans to complete the 1- and 3-mile races at the St. Joseph School Fun Run in Sprague. “I chose this race because it’s close to where I live,” said LeClair. LeClair began her journey in 2017 with a race in Norwich after her best friend told her about the Run 169 Towns Society.

It will be a celebration of the art of maple sugaring. This weekend, March 16 and March 17, the 32nd annual Hebron Maple Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will include all of the usual favorites, with the addition of some new attractions. Hebron has held a Maple Festival since 1991, according to organizer Holly Habicht. “The stories, the lore, the education, the history…all part of it!” said Habicht.

It’s a Connecticut venue with history, run by volunteers and filled with music, film, dance, literature, and theater. There are two events coming up at Willington’s The Packing House listening room. On Saturday, February 10 the venue will host legendary Americana and folk artist, Chris Smither. And on Saturday, April 27, legendary singer-songwriters Cheryl Wheeler and Kenny White will appear at The Packing House.
