In March 2025, the Young Pacific Leaders Women’s Sports Programme took place in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), New Zealand, marking the culmination of a transformative three-week journey for 13 exceptional women from the Pacific region. The programme, run by Women in Sport Aotearoain partnership with Pasifika Sisters in Sport, was designed to empower young Pacific women through sports, leadership development, and cultural exchange.

A former member of the GB rowing team in her youth, Katrina Edmunds hung up her oars and drifted in a different direction to pursue a career in education. For more than two decades, she stayed off the water until the lure of Lake Geneva, Switzerland, called her to return.

In collaboration with Matatū and High Performance Sport NZ (HPSNZ), UC doctoral student, Rebecca Attwell, is leading a study which aims to shed a critical light on an overlooked area of sports science – the impact of female sex hormones on athletic recovery and performance.
