The past few weeks have been crunch time for the new team at Grey’s Social Eatery, but they got to reap the rewards Friday evening as the restaurant held its grand opening in an area of the city that has struggled in recent years. The former home of the Blue Cactus Bar and Grill on ByWard Market Square was updated with custom chandeliers and modern bar-tops, creating a modern-vintage space and featuring a menu of international and classic dishes.

Canadian IT recruitment agency Procom is expanding its Ottawa presence and has tapped former Altis executive Irfan Ahmed to lead the effort. Ahmed announced on LinkedIn recently that he has begun a “new chapter” of his career, joining the Procom team as consulting director. In an interview with OBJ, Ahmed said his role will be to “help build (Procom’s) presence here in Ottawa. Their head office is in Toronto and they have locations across Canada.

An influx of residents from nearby highrises and ongoing development projects are helping Little Italy become an even better-known neighbourhood for foodies. Area restaurants were showing off what they bring to the table at the Taste of Little Italy event Tuesday evening. Organized by the Preston Street BIA, the event featured 21 local businesses, from restaurants and patisseries to brewers and distilleries, which provided sample dishes to the sold-out crowd of 400 at the Preston Event Centre.
