What a beautiful day for Davis County Pride! I am a proud native son of Sunset, Utah. I consider myself lucky to have grown up in Sunset, right outside the gates of Hill Field. People of many colors and creeds were my neighbors and friends. My closest friends were more likely to be Japanese or Mexican than white. And I was welcomed, even as a Christmas-Easter Catholic, to the LDS Sunset First Ward to participate in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

In a letter to supporters, the Utah Pride Center Board of Directors announced Wednesday several major changes, including a new location and a search for a new executive director. They also announced “full steam ahead” for Utah Pride in June, and a collaboration with Flourish Therapy for mental health services. The letter was penned by Jess Couser, who was appointed chair of the board of directors in September of last year.

Utah Pride Center leaders announced a new executive director, a new board, and a new path forward Wednesday. They also announced the continuation of the Utah Pride Festival and Parade. The Utah Pride Center announced in August that it laid off seven of its 19 staff members, and later furloughed the rest of the staff, citing the “instability of our organization.” Leaders temporarily closed the doors of the Center, partially reopening them in October.
