The work will be between the Amtrak rail and Wattles Road. The $953,000 project will involve asphalt milling and resurfacing, sidewalk ramp upgrades, and pavement marking. It is expected to take until Friday, August 29.

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine will welcome resident doctors from across the state on Wednesday for the Michigan College of Emergency Physicians Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association of Michigan SimWars Competition. There will be 11 teams, including one from WMed, taking part in the annual event that features several simulated scenarios to test residents’ abilities and skills in high-pressure, emergency situations.

LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she is not ready yet to bring all state employees back to in-person work. Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall does want that, but Whitmer says she is pleased with the current hybrid arrangement. She noted “the whole world looks different than it did ten years ago, much less five years ago” and added she is proud of the state work force.

PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Starting Monday, West Milham Avenue between 12th Street and Oakland Drive will be under construction. The city of Portage says the project will include ADA sidewalk and ramp replacements, curb repairs, extension of the city’s fiber network from Oakland Drive to Angling Road, and road milling and resurfacing. Traffic signals at the Monticello Avenue and Devon Street intersections will also be replaced.
