PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The driver of an SUV suffered serious injuries when they crashed into a tree in Portage yesterday afternoon. Police say the crash happened around 4 p.m. on Kilgore Road between Skylar and Lakeside drives, but have not indicated what caused it. The crash happened on the border between the cities of Kalamazoo and Portage. The driver has not been identified.

SCHOOLCRAFT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – There will be no parade through downtown Schoolcraft next Friday for the Fourth of July. The village council decided last night to cancel the parade because they don’t have enough police to staff the event. The cancellation is the second consecutive in Schoolcraft, with last year’s called off due to road construction. The fireworks will still happen in the village on July 5 and the car show in Burch Park will also happen.

SHERMAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Several people have been arrested by the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office after deputies engaged in a brief chase with a stolen motorcycle Tuesday. They spotted the bike in the area of Shimmel and Storms roads in Sherman Township, and the motorcyclist refused to pull over for a traffic stop. They then abandoned the bike and tried to run off.

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two people are in custody after they were arrested June 21 by the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team, Kalamazoo Public Safety, and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. They were working on an operation to address gun violence in the city of Kalamazoo by locating and arresting people who were illegally possessing guns.
