Leicester City prospect Brandon Cover was hailed as “absolutely superb” as he continues to make a telling impact on loan at Port Vale. The 20-year-old defensive midfielder/right-back has started all three League Two matches for Port Vale since heading to Staffordshire on deadline day. Despite his inexperience, his displays have earned rave reviews. Cover made his City debut in the FA Cup last season but that was the only senior appearance he had to his name before joining Vale.

RIP Harry Poole. One of the Vale’s finest players. He made close to 500 appearances for the club between 1956 and 1968 and then he spent another 50 years supporting the Vale at every home game. Not in hospitality, not as a pundit, but as a fan with his son and then grandsons. He was also a gentleman, one of the most humble people you could wish to meet. In a Sentinel interview for his 80th birthday, Harry reckoned most of the people he bumped into in the Bycars had no idea he used to play a bit.
