Texas Instruments significantly upped its commitment to US chip production, detailing an historic $60 billion investment to supersize its fabrication facilities and a notable hike in the number of domestic jobs expected to be created in building and operating the sites. The investment covers seven fabs across three sites in the US states of Texas and Utah, with up to 60,000 domestic jobs expected to be supported.

UAE-headquartered du moved to tackle attenuation in sub-6GHz and mmWave signals by deploying pureLiFi’s Bridge XC system, targeting an overhaul in outdoor consumer premises equipment (CPE). CTO Saleem Alblooshi explained du is seeking a way to overcome attenuation caused by the materials used to construct buildings. The operator is set to trial pureLiFi’s set-up with a view to boosting its 4G, 5G, fixed wireless access and fibre optical network terminals.

Multiple news outlets report OpenAI CEO Sam Altman (pictured) cast doubt on Meta Platforms’ ambitions for AI by alleging the social media giant is attempting to lure its staff with substantial signing bonuses of up to $100 million. Financial Times (FT) reported Altman made the allegation in a podcast presented by his brother. The executive apparently cast aspersions on Meta Platforms’ progress in the AI field, but added no OpenAI developers approached by the company had jumped ship.

Sweden sought to improve communications among its armed forces by trialling NorthStar 5G, an innovation programme established by operator Telia and vendor Ericsson in 2023 which primarily targets industrial applications of the technology. Telia explained the military is seeking boosts in logistics and security, along with better lines of communication. The trials of NorthStar 5G are also set to aid the nation’s role in the NATO alliance.
