The owner of the Majmae Al Haramain Halal Meat Market & Grocery at 690 Jonestown Road in Winston-Salem, is planning to open a restaurant next door. Mohamad H. Mohamad, a native of Yemen, has run Majmae Al Haramain for almost three years. Interior work has just begun on the restaurant, which will serve Arabic food. The restaurant will have both indoor and outdoor patio seating. Mohamad said he expects the work to take a couple of months.

A couple has opened a new spot in Greensboro that combines their love of food and music. A'leurer opened May 30 at 1500 Mill St., Suite 101, in the space formerly occupied by Taste of Thai. It's in a strip center that also houses Saffron Indian Cuisine. Donnell Charlton and his wife, Natasha Charlton, said they wanted to open a restaurant where they also could support local artists by hosting their performances.

A Middle Eastern restaurant is expected to open in early June in Kester Mill Village. Hummus Kabab & Grill will be at 1555 Hanes Mall Blvd. next to La Botana in the spot formerly occupied by Tanoshi Japanese restaurant. Owner Kaled Mostafa, a native of Egypt, said that the restaurant will have a broad variety of Middle Eastern fare. "It will be not just Egyptian, but Yemeni, Syrian...," he said. In addition to kababs, the menu will include rice dishes and more, he said.

Yelp recently named Winston-Salem's Dough Joe's as one of the top places for donuts in the United States. Owners Anna Margaret Roth and husband Eric Disch started Dough Joe's as a food truck in 2017, not long after graduating from Wake Forest University. They opened their brick-and-mortar store in Reynolda Village in 2019. A few years later, they opened a sandwich shop and bar, Theodore's, next door. Yelp ranked Dough Joe's 35th on its list with an average 4.5 star rating.

A husband-and-wife-team have opened Winston-Salem’s first Dominican food truck. The Latin Spot opened May 23 at 1919 Silas Creek Parkway. Owners Jorge Done and Stephany Pena said that spot – next to NYC Glamour hair studio and CC’s New York Style Icee – will be its permanent location, where they will serve from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Done, 41, is a native of the Dominican Republic who moved to New York when he was 18.
