    No. 15 Burlington Township put together two explosive scoring plays in the final 2:30 of the first half to spark a 30-7 win over No. 20 Cedar Creek in a quarterfinal game of the West Jersey Football League Tournament at Centercourt in Lawrence Township on Wednesday. The win moves the Falcons into the WJFL semifinal at the Novicare Arena on Saturday against the winner of Thursday’s quarterfinal game between top seeded, No. 3 Kingsway and 9-seed Camden Catholic.

    For the sixth time in seven years, St. Thomas Aquinas was crowned Greater Middlesex Conference tournament champion when it defeated South Plainfield 5-1 in the GMC final at Woodbridge High School on Friday afternoon. The Trojans struck early, scoring three first inning runs and never looking back, as pitcher Liz Negron limited the South Plainfield offense to a single run, in spite of the Lions having at least one runner in scoring position in all but one inning.

    Red Bank Catholic pitcher Luke Meyers had originally planned on starting Tuesday’s Monmouth County Tournament final game at Brookdale Community College in Lyndhurst. But after RBC coach Buddy Hausmann gave the ball to his ace Ryan Prior, Meyers settled in to rest up for the upcoming Shore Conference final. But starter Prior struggled through a 108 pitch effort and reliever Sam French got chased in the bottom of the sixth when CBA loaded the bases on a pair of errors and a walk with none out.

    West Windsor-Plainsboro North trailed the leaders all day on Saturday at the Central Jersey, Group 3 Meet at Jackson Liberty, and after the 200, with just two track events left to run, the Northern Knights weren’t even among the top three teams. But North put on a spectacular finish, as Allison Lee and Zui Chinchalkar finished 2-3 in the 1,600 for 14 team points and the 4x400 relay team of Nina Dixit, Mahima Bansal, Chinchalkar and anchor Brie Davis-Owens took second for eight more team points.
