The Justice Department filed a motion Thursday to drop all charges against a Salvadoran man who Attorney General Pam Bondi described two weeks ago as one of the top leaders of the MS-13 gangs in the country. The move comes after Bondi, flanked by FBI Director Kash Patel, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and other law enforcement officials, held a news conference and announced the arrest of 24-year-old Henrry Josue Villatoro Santos.

The FBI has issued a call for agents to voluntarily serve as bodyguards for Deputy Director Dan Bongino, a break from past practice in which the bureau’s No. 2 officials did not have security details, two current and two former FBI officials familiar with the matter told NBC News. Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and New York police officer who became a wealthy pro-Trump podcaster, harshly criticized the bureau for years before President Donald Trump chose him to be deputy director.

Judges showed some frustration this week with how the Trump administration has been defending itself in court, with one saying it appeared to have used "bad faith" tactics, another accusing it of using "disingenuous" arguments and a third saying it was making "inaccurate" claims. A much-ballyhooed release of documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case devolved into anger and disappointment Thursday, with conservative figures and even Attorney General Pam Bondi alleging FBI agents were hiding the full case files. Epstein, a New York City financier whose social circle included presidents and other rich and powerful figures, died by suicide in a Manhattan jail in 2019 after he was charged with running a sex trafficking ring involving minors.
