Three “ambitious” software engineers have pleaded guilty to stealing more than €3,500 worth of goods during a series of thefts from Ikea in Dublin. Monnisha Nimma, 27, Ms Sai Radhika Kavuri, 32, and 34-year-old Sri Ravikiran Garimella, each with an address at Station Walk, Newbridge, Co Kildare, pleaded guilty on Friday to stealing from the furniture chain’s Ballymun outlet on three dates in January.

The Court of Appeal has upheld that a serving Garda and his wife leave a house in Co Cavan they were occupying after their bid to remain there failed. The court had been told that businesswoman Sylvia Fox bought two houses in March last year at a housing estate after the developer, who was also the landlord, went bust.

A bookkeeper accused of murdering his mother told his then-wife that before her death, the deceased "went a bit mad", struck herself with a knife, swung her cane around and tried to pick a fight with him, a murder trial has heard. Nigel Canavan (39) told his wife that he went upstairs, but when he heard two "thuds", he returned and found his mother, Angela Canavan (58), dead on the floor.

The High Court has appointed an interim examiner to Workman’s Club Ltd, part of the former Press Up hospitality and entertainment group founded by Patrick McKillen junior and Matthew Ryan. Ms Justice Eileen Roberts appointed Declan McDonald of PwC Ireland as interim examiner on foot of a petition for court protection on behalf of the company by Kelley Smith SC, instructed by Gavin Simons, partner in AMOSS solicitors.

A man who was cleared of sexually assaulting his 19-year-old daughter has won a High Court challenge to a refusal to grant him a licence to drive a taxi. The man's trial for alleged sexual assault heard that he and his daughter lived together, the parents having separated. They were out visiting a sister and a neighbour on Christmas Eve when they had some drinks before returning home and going to bed.
