CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — The Bridgeport Indians snared six first-team spots and nine overall on the All-Harrison County baseball teams, as selected by county coaches and members of The Exponent Telegram sports staff. The Tribe placed catcher Michael Romano, infielders Kasen Baun and Carson Currey, pitcher Jacob Stavrakis and utilities Luke Rohrig and Owen Sondericker on the first unit and Robert Shields earned coach of the year. Romano batted .319 with 33 runs scored and 24 stolen bases.

(WV News) — Signups continue for the annual MVB/Exponent Telegram All-County Sports Awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 24 at the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center in downtown Clarksburg. The ceremony honors athletic achievement in Harrison County. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m.Honorees do not need to purchase a ticket, but all need to register at https://www.wvnews.com/theet/sports/banquet/#//. No tickets will be sold at the door.

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — The Big 10 can just ship its baseball awards on Emily Drive for safekeeping and convenience. All three major winners, selected by the conference’s coaches, are from Harrison County: Player of the Year Cooper Floyd (Robert C. Byrd), Pitcher of the Year Jacob Stavrakis (Bridgeport) and Coach of the Year Robert Shields (Bridgeport). Floyd hit .488 with five home runs, 11 doubles, 16 RBIs and 46 runs scored.

NUTTER FORT, W.Va. (WV News) — It was a hit a half-century in the making. With the Philip Barbour Colts trying to close out their best-of-3 Class AA Region II series and the score knotted at 0 in the top of the sixth, Tyler Sisson stepped to the plate with a runner on base and two outs. Sisson delivered an RBI single past second base to score Landyn Carpenter and give the Colts a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. He then scored on Kent Rowan’s triple to center: 2-0, and that’s where it ended.

(WV News) – Hayden Chickerell’s social media efforts with Bethany College paid off. “I’ve been following their (lacrosse) page for a while,” the soon-to-be Fairmont Senior graduate said. “In November, they just messaged me and we set up a call and a tour.”Chickerell liked what she saw. “They were very open about everything. From the get-go, they were very nice. The way they treated me, I wanted that kind of contact. That’s when the recruiting process began for me,” Chickerell said.

Riley Pearlman’s prolific power output as a senior for Lincoln, helping the Cougars win the sectional title again, caught the eye of Wheeling University. “They contacted me about the end of our season with a week left. They saw me on the news and said, ‘Who is this?’ Then they contacted me, which was really great,” Pearlman said.
