WILKES-BARRE — Luzerne County would not need a loan for a proposed $615,000 purchase of the historic former train station in downtown Wilkes-Barre, officials said at the county council meeting on Tuesday. The county could buy the former train station with available community development funds, Budget & Finance Division Head Mary Roselle told council.

WILKES-BARRE — Qiana Lehman has resigned as an enforcement attorney for Luzerne County’s ethics commission, and the commission is now scrambling to find an attorney willing to do the job. The commission has struggled to find attorneys willing to work as enforcement attorneys, commission members said at Monday’s meeting.

Luzerne County Council plans to vote Tuesday on an ordinance merging the mapping/GIS and planning & zoning departments. County Manager Romilda Crocamo is recommending the merger to enhance resource allocation and efficiency. Staff for both departments would remain the same except there would be one department head instead of two. Dan Reese is the GIS director and acting director of planning & zoning.

Luzerne County Council will discuss a resolution authorizing a $615,000 purchase of the historic former train station in downtown Wilkes-Barre, according to Tuesday’s work session agenda. Market Square Properties Development LLC listed the 4,000-square-foot station up for sale at $625,000. The county is leasing 2,100 square feet inside the building for the tourism office, Visit Luzerne County, and officials have said they don’t want to relocate.
