    The township of South Algonquin posted on their Facebook page on June 11 about some graffiti that had appeared around the township that could be construed as a possible hate crime. They’ve made it clear that the township and council roundly condemn this type of behaviour and have reported it to the Whitney detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. Mayor Ethel LaValley and Provincial Constable Kyle Fabian, media relations person with the OPP comment on this incident to The Bancroft Times.

    At their May 21 meeting, Limerick Township council had a presentation from Rob McGowan, invasive species outreach liaison with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, regarding Milfoil and mitigation measures to contain and eradicate it, as it has started to appear on lakes and water bodies in Limerick. In addition to discussing this issue at last September’s council meeting, an ad-hoc committee was also set up in the interim to address it and find possible solutions.

    Retired geologist and author Dr. Ken Card gave a presentation and signed copies of his latest book Ungava: Mapping the Great Empty Land of Cain at Emond Hall in Maynooth, sponsored by the Hastings Highlands Public Library on May 28. The audience seemed to love his talk, hung on his every word and asked some astute queries at the end. Both Card and Wendy Keating, the CEO/head librarian with HHPL, who also helped edit the book, thought the talk went extremely well.
