NORFOLK, Neb. — Local tourism officials are bringing four Friday nights of free outdoor concerts to downtown Norfolk. It’s the fifth year of the Downtown Norfolk River Point District Concert Series. The 2025 edition features shows on June 6, June 20, July 18 and August 1. Organizers are offering a new happy hour deal — buy four tickets between 5:30 and 6:30 PM and get a free drink token.

CARROLL, Neb. — Fast action from local volunteer firefighters helped contain a field fire in northeast Nebraska on Monday afternoon. The fire started around 3:15 on land about three miles east of Carroll in Wayne County. Firefighters from Carroll Volunteer Fire and Winside Fire and Rescue each responded. Two tanker trucks supplied water for the firefighters. Officials said over the radio that they didn’t need additional help about 3:45 and most units were leaving the scene by 4:00.

KEARNEY, Neb. — A Kearney man accused of threatening a police lieutenant and stalking the city’s police chief will be going back to jail. Judges in both county court and district court handed down sentences in different cases to 59-year-old Marcus Ditchman on Friday afternoon. In district court, Ditchman received two years of probation for a third-degree assault conviction. In county court, he received an identical probation term to be served simultaneously for a misdemeanor stalking conviction.

KEARNEY, Neb. — Two people are safe after jumping from a roof to avoid a house fire in Kearney. Firefighters were called to the blaze at 520 W 25th St. at 11:45 Monday night. A news release says the initial call reported that the residents were trapped on the roof. Officials say the occupants had jumped from the roof and were safe by the time firefighters arrived. According to the release, firefighters had the fire under control in about 45 minutes. The flames also damaged a neighboring house.

KEARNEY, Neb. (NCN) - U.S. Rep. Adrian Smith is the latest member of Nebraska’s congressional delegation to face a cantankerous crowd in their home state. Smith participated in a question and answer event hosted by the College Republicans at UNK on Thursday afternoon. A couple dozen students were on hand and asked questions, but most of the crowd was made up of locals, many of whom were at Sen. Pete Ricketts’ town hall earlier in the day.
