    Today is the final chance to have any say on some of the most important decisions voters will make this year. It’s the final day for residents to decide who’ll lead them on councils and boards and whether various taxing entities should issue many millions of dollars in bond debt to pay for capital improvements. The biggest among those is a proposal by Galveston County to issue about $186 million to pay for road projects all over the county and major facility and drainage improvements.

    There was a little justice in the sentencing last week of a Kentucky woman who helped scam the city of Galveston out of nearly $700,000. The restitution condition means nothing except Sloan will have to serve the whole 10 years because she won’t earn $695,418 working in a prison laundry. Sloan’s sentence is less than a half-measure of justice. A full measure would require the apprehension, extradition, conviction and incarceration of an unnamed German man.
