Hundreds of grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were seized during a Saturday, May 31 execution of a search warrant in Dumas. According to Dumas Police Department (DPD) Lt. Tommy Gonzales, the warrant was executed in the 800 block of Binkley Street around 7 a.m. Saturday by officers of the DPD along with detectives and members of the Special Response Team. During the search, law enforcement discovered over 360 grams of methamphetamine and various items of drug paraphernalia.

On February 28, 2022, Velasquez allegedly shot at a man in Santa Clara County, California, and hit an unintended person. The man whom Velasquez allegedly intended to shoot, Harry Goularte Jr., had been arrested prior to the shooting for allegedly committing child sexual abuse on Velasquez's son at a daycare owned by Goularte's family. The man shot was Goularte's step father.

A 31-year-old Dumas man is dead following a traffic accident that took place Thursday morning, Oct. 10 in Hartley County about 11 miles east of Dalhart. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2015 Volvo truck tractor towing a semi-trailer was exiting a private drive and turning right to travel east on FM 281. “In the process of… the turn, the semi-trailer detached from the truck tractor and came to rest in both lanes of travel,” said the DPS.

Friday, Aug. 30 is a day we won’t soon forget. Shortly after everyone arrived, we were informed of the passing of our dear friend and longtime co-worker, Jessie Frausto. The News-Press family is deeply saddened by the loss of Jessie. He was a driving force behind our sales department for many years. Though his health had begun to deteriorate over the past couple of years, Jessie continued to give it his all each day working for the newspaper he loved.
