The new issue of Abitare is on the newsstands from tomorrow Wednesday 26 June. Highlights include the monumental former grain store facing onto the port of Kristiansand, Norway, turned into a museum for modern and contemporary Nordic art by Mestres Wåge; the furnishings and interiors of Greek studio Objects of Common Interest, a celebration of dialogue; the renovation of the Hermitage Hotel on Lake Lucerne, a complex operation still underway by Swiss studio Herzog & de Meuron.

A Constructivist-influenced abstract sculptor. That’s how James Wines described himself before leaping over the bounds of art studios and galleries, and down from their pedestals, before exiting in short from the special places assigned to art in order to take it elsewhere. He was in good company – with Gordon Matta-Clark, Robert Smithson, Vito Acconci, Michael Heizer, to mention just a few – in that neighbourhood of SoHo in New York where he opened his studio in 1960.
