    A Simi Valley man has been given four years in state prison for a 2022 Christmas Day crash that killed 23-year-old Coldren “Cole” Kiblinger. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced May 27 that Michael Butler, 40, received his sentence after pleading guilty to one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Butler entered his plea on April 24. He will serve his time in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in Wasco.

    Recent bear sightings in north Moorpark have prompted city officials to remind residents about living safely alongside local wildlife. According to Eric Lozano, vector/animal control technician at the city’s Animal Control Division, the reports in the past few weeks came from the area near Spring Road and Walnut Canyon Road. In both cases, the bear eventually left the area, likely returning to nearby wildlands.
