The legal process that could lead to freedom for Lyle and Erik Menendez was allowed to continue, against the wishes of Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, by a judge’s April 11 ruling in Van Nuys Superior Court. The Menendez brothers, who were one-time residents of Calabasas, were convicted nearly three decades ago of murdering their parents with shotguns in 1989 at the family’s mansion home in Beverly Hills. They were sentenced to life in prison without parole.

At its April 9 meeting the City Council voted unanimously to widen an ordinance regulating truck parking—which previously did not apply to the kind of haulers being used for fire debris—and stopping the dozens that use Agoura Road, particularly at night.
