As death continues to take many forms and steal an ever-increasing number of lives in Gaza, escaping it merely marks the continuation of a protracted agony. Every act of violence committed by Israeli forces causes irreversible loss, whether financial, social, emotional, or physical. By rendering healthy life unattainable for the large majority of the population, Israel’s military actions do not just debilitate a Palestinian present, but also cripple any chances of a Palestinian future.

In December 2023, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that if Hezbollah were to “start an all-out war, then it will single-handedly turn Beirut and South Lebanon…into Gaza and Khan Yunis.” Against the backdrop of the war on Gaza, which many experts have stated amounts to genocide, Netanyahu’s statement was a stark warning for those living in Lebanon.

The saber rattling between Hezbollah and Israeli officials during the past few weeks, has everyone in Lebanon predictably worried that Israel’s systematic destruction of the southern parts of the country will expand to regions beyond Hezbollah’s area of operations. We will not have to imagine the type of devastation that a new Israeli war on Lebanon would bring.
