The province of Ontario is looking to fast-track a landfill in Dresden, Ont. Ontario Premier Doug Ford wants to exempt the York1 Environmental Waste Solutions project from an environmental assessment. The move is included in the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, unveiled by Ford Friday. It calls for “transforming environmental oversight” and cites three project examples, including York1’s plan for Dresden.

Ramadhan Nizigiyimana, 33, was out on bail and under a court-order to stay away from his spouse at the time of her murder in October 2021. On Oct. 3, 2021, court learned Nizigiyimana “forced his way” into a home on Elliott Street West during a party attended by other members of Windsor’s refugee community.
Unexpected guilty plea halts dangerous driving trial in Windsor

A truck driver who was in the middle of a dangerous driving trial in Windsor has pled guilty to a lesser charge. Late Friday, Lovepreet Singh, 29, pleaded guilty to careless driving causing death under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act (OHTA). He was on trial for two counts of dangerous driving causing death under the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC). Singh’s trial started Monday and had three weeks remaining in evidence before Friday’s guilty plea.

Two men have been sentenced to house arrest for their involvement in an east Windsor shooting. Brothers Andrew Meloche, 24, and Joshua Fryer, 22, pleaded guilty to unauthorized possession of a firearm while in a motor vehicle. “I’m very sorry for everything,” Fryer said in March during his sentencing hearing. “I definitely learned a lesson from this all.
Immigrant pleads guilty to murder in IPV death of Filipino woman in Leamington

The accused in the intimate partner violence (IPV) death of a Filipino woman in Leamington has pled guilty. David Espinoza Montes, 40, pleaded guilty to second degree murder Friday in the death of Shermaine Carling on Sept. 29, 2022. The OPP publicly released her identity as the victim a few days after the murder.
