TROY-An 80-year-old Troy man was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the 2023 murder of Essie Meadows. Larvey Woods was sentenced to life in prison by 12th Judicial Circuit Judge Jeff Kelley at a hearing in Troy Wednesday, according to 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney James Tarbox. “I appreciate the sentence imposed in this case,” Tarbox said after the sentencing.

Meet Pookie, the SOS Shelter Pet of the Week. This beautiful girl was found in the parking lot at SOS Animal Shelter hiding in the drain. She’s about three years old and has settled into life at the shelter quite well, but of course she would much prefer a home of her own. Pookie gets on with the other kitties in our cat rooms, so we believe she would do well in a home with another cat once she has adjusted. She is a laid-back lady, super friendly, and she would make a wonderful lap cat.

OZARK-An Ozark man is in jail after being found with thousands of fentanyl pills after leading authorities on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash. Cornelius Cooper, 38, was arrested Wednesday in possession of some 3,000 pills believed to be fentanyl, said Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum. At about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dale County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over a red Dodge Charger traveling northbound on Highway 231, near County Road 2123 for an equipment violation.
