The Dothan Eagle is a daily publication that caters to Dothan, Alabama and its neighboring areas. It was previously owned by the Thomson Corporation until the year 2000, when it changed hands to Media General. In 2012, Media General sold off many of its newspapers, including the Dothan Eagle, to its current owner, Berkshire Hathaway.

Houston Academy girls soccer coach Tom Renshaw had an inkling this year’s team could be something special. “The way this team was developing, I saw that we had a credible chance to make a run … and we did make a run,” Renshaw said. Did they ever. For the first time in school history, the HA Lady Raiders made it to the Class 1A-3A Final Four in Huntsville before bowing out in the semifinals during a 3-1 loss to eventual state champion Lee-Scott Academy.

His patron, George Herbert, the fifth Earl of Carnarvon, and an avid collector of Egyptian antiquities, told Carter he was cutting off his funding after the season.

In his first year as head varsity boys soccer coach, Richie Morton led Providence Christian to its greatest achievement in program history, while Nate Selig set the Houston Academy single-season record with 75 goals to cap off his high school career. The two earned top honors for the Dothan Eagle Super 12 boys soccer selections with Morton being named Coach of the Year and Selig chosen Player of the Year.

Winston Howell, a longtime competitor and staunch promoter of 5K road races in the Wiregrass, passed away in his lifelong hometown of Hartford on Monday at age 83. While he ran world-renowned marathons in Boston, New York and Atlanta, it was throughout this area that Howell made his mark, which included overseeing an annual road race bearing his name in Hartford which raised money for many local organizations, including the local Boys Scouts troop.
