Dispersal order in place following reports of dangerous driving at Southend car cruise event

A dispersal order has been put in place in Southend this evening and overnight. This follows an organised car cruise which is taking place on Western Esplanade. There have been reports of dangerous driving and people are standing on either side of the road, putting themselves at risk. The specific locations affected are in the map above, but include Marine Parade, Pier Hill, Western Esplanade and Chalkwell Esplanade.

New limits on public participation at Redbridge Council meetings 'undemocratic,' say campaigners

Further limits on the questions residents can ask Redbridge councillors at public meetings are “undemocratic,” campaigners say. Under the new ‘public participation protocol,’ their questions will be limited to 100 words in length. Additionally, they will need to submit their questions to the council five days before the meeting, up from three currently. There is presently no word limit, though residents are asked to keep their questions within two minutes.
